My view of book publication

Books

Developing, writing, researching and designing a book is a very long and arduous process that often takes several years or longer. Once this work is done, most authors begin the sometimes frustrating and very often unsuccessful search for a suitable publisher.

I don’t publish many books, but whenever I am entrusted with the design of a book project, I refuse to compromise on production. Discussing cheap formats, thinner paper or black and white content with a publisher for cost reasons is something I dislike.

Few books become bestsellers, but a great book will always be an invaluable source of information and inspiration and should be respected and appreciated from day one and given the longevity it deserves – in part through its design and appearance.

Books by Heinz Günnewig

'Robert Louis Stevenson und seine Bande', Volume 1

After a childhood marked by Calvinism, youthful antics and painful struggles with his father Thomas, Stevenson fled to California to find love and support.

'Robert Louis Stevenson und seine Bande', Volume 2

After returning to Scotland with his wife and stepson, Stevenson’s ‘most fruitful’ seven years as a writer begin; but they are also the ‘most terrible’ years, during which he recovers in Davos, Hyères and Bournemouth.

'Robert Louis Stevenson und seine Bande', Volume 3

After the death of his father Thomas, Stevenson and his family embarked on a series of sailing trips in Polynesia, settled on Upolu and wrote his best novels.

This book is scheduled for release in autumn 2025.

'Annäherung an James Matthew Barrie'

There are thousands and thousands of pages written about Barrie. Many biographers have tried to sneak under the little Scot’s full-length coat to shed light on his complicated inner life. Who was he? Where did he come from? Where was he going? With whom? What drove him?

'Anfänge - Bilderbücher erzählen und lesen'. '

Dr Heinz: Günnewig, Professor at Faculty III of the University of Luxembourg, a passionate didacticist, inclined towards theorists who test their ideas in the grey and colourful reality of children – and then act;
Practitioners who enrich the grey and colourful reality for the benefit and joy of children by constantly checking their own knowledge and skills – and then taking action.
