My view of book publication

Books

Developing, writing, researching and designing a book is a very long and arduous process that often takes several years or longer. Once this work is done, most authors begin the sometimes frustrating and very often unsuccessful search for a suitable publisher.

I don’t publish many books, but whenever I am entrusted with the design of a book project, I refuse to compromise on production. Discussing cheap formats, thinner paper or black and white content with a publisher for cost reasons is something I dislike.

Few books become bestsellers, but a great book will always be an invaluable source of information and inspiration and should be respected and appreciated from day one and given the longevity it deserves – in part through its design and appearance.

'Robert Louis Stevenson und seine Bande', Volume 2

After returning to Scotland with his wife and stepson, Stevenson’s ‘most fruitful’ seven years as a writer begin; but they are also the ‘most terrible’ years, during which he recovers in Davos, Hyères and Bournemouth.

'Robert Louis Stevenson und seine Bande', Volume 3

After the death of his father Thomas, Stevenson and his family embarked on a series of sailing trips in Polynesia, settled on Upolu and wrote his best novels.
